  • Highlights

The Institute for Social and European Studies Foundation in collaboration with Budapest Corvinus University provides students with the opportunity to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of international relations, the problems of small states in Europe, the Balkans, international economics, regional integration and development, political science, European culture and sociology. ISES Foundation provides a variety of programs and services during the academic year which will make students stay in Hungary a rewarding and enriching experience.

Since 2005, the MA International Economic Relations programme at the Institute for Social & European Studies (ISES) has provided students from around the world with the opportunity to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of international relations and economics, regional and global studies, political science, sociology, European culture and history.

Upon completion of the MA International Economic Relations programme, students will receive a unique degree that is recognized as being achieved at a Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence institution, supported by Corvinus University of Budapest, one of the highest ranked universities in Central Europe. Obtaining an MA International Economic Relations degree from ISES will be highly advantageous in our current world system of global economics, business and political affairs.

The structure of the MA International Economic Relations programme is unique in that the courses and faculty are not fixed throughout the term. Each week a highly acclaimed member of academia including university professors, EU officials, NGO leaders, development and regional experts, will visit ISES and spend the week lecturing on their topic of expertise. Although lecturers come from a variety of countries, all courses are taught in English.

Due to this unique structure, students studying at ISES are given the opportunity to begin in the Fall or Spring semester. In order to graduate, it is required that students spend two semesters on campus for course work, with a third semester spend elsewhere for research and thesis writing. For each semester students will earn 60 ECT Credits, a total of 120 for completion of the two on-campus semesters. Upon successful completion and defense of the MA thesis, students will be awarded an additional 60 ECTS Credits. A total of 120 on-campus credits and 60 MA thesis credits are mandatory for obtaining an MA International Economics Relations degree.

In addition, the program averages 20-30 students per semester so engagement with professors is allowed a more intimate and dedicated space for interaction. Students find this to be extremely rewarding and advantageous in comparison to other institutions where class sizes are much larger and individual space for discussions are lost in the crowd.

The diversity of students' backgrounds and cultures combined with the beautiful atmosphere of KQszeg make for an incredibly unique and rewarding experience for students studying at the ISES Foundation. The structure of the city, the location of the school and student dormitories, make accessibility to amenities and city life extremely easy.

Within walking distance students can find train and bus transportation to take them to any distant attractions they wish to see and by foot to the most beautiful of nature's offerings.

Our professors are as diverse as the students. They are internationally known experts who represent a diversity of professional and academic experience and come from all over the world. The programme provides for unique student-faculty relations where professors and academic staff take personal interest in and pay attention to individual students and their needs.

  • Institute for Social and European Studies Foundation's Mission Statement

The Institute for Social and European Studies Foundation (ISES Foundation) is an international multidisciplinary research and educational centre. The aim of our teaching activity is to train multilingual, young experts who will prepare to take leading roles in the process of EU integration in Hungary as well as abroad. The main objective of ISES is to research and teach issues related in the broadest sense to the process of European integration. Our students take courses not only in economics, law and EU related matters, but they also acquire a thorough knowledge of European history, culture, philosophy, and discuss current issues related to civil society, nationalism and globalisation. In recent years ISES has participated in a number of leading international and Hungarian research projects, in wich multidisciplinarity is highly present. We are continuously aiming to broaden and deepen our networks with national and international partner institutions.
