This is a 3-month course aimed at those who intend to study and/or work in the Hotel and Tourism industry in France or other French-speaking country. It is especially aimed at those who are about to start a course of study leading to a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hotel and Tourism Management but is equally suitable for those who want to gain some valuable and relevant language skills before looking for hotel work.
Course content
Weeks 1-4:
General French language tuition with an emphasis on speaking and understanding in everyday situations Introduction to French culture and way of life
Weeks 5-12:
Topic-based language tuition covering real life contexts and situations within the areas of Hotel and
Tourism. Topics include:
- Reception - checking in, checking out, taking bookings, different types of payment, dealing with complaints, dealing with enquiries
- Restaurant/Bar - taking orders, describing dishes, dealing with complaints
- Kitchen - methods of cooking, equipment, health and safety issues
- Housekeeping - cleaning, laundry, rooms
- Hotel facilities and services - showing guests around, explaining how things work, conference facilities, sports and leisure facilities
- Administration - telephoning, taking messages, writing emails, writing short letters
- Tourism - describing and recommending tourist attractions, explaining itineraries and timetables, public transport
- English for hotels and tourism
Optional afternoon/evening activities
- Guided visit of Montpellier
- Weekly conversation class
- Local excursions and visits
- Weekly social get-together for staff and students in a restaurant, ice-cream parlour, bar

Course Description
- Starting level: Intermediate French
- Length: 12 weeks
- No. of hours per week: 15 (09:00-12:00 Monday to Friday)
- Start dates: May and June
- Group size: 4-10 students
French/English for Hotel and Tourism Management: 12-week programme at the Eurolingua Institute in Montpellier, South of France, followed by optional paid work experience in a French or UK hotel, according to visa status. These programmes are suitable for both EU and non-EU students meeting French or UK immigration requirements (visa, work permit etc).
