We started out in 1863 as Kansas State Normal School (normal schools were dedicated to the education of teachers). This history covers some of the challenges and triumphs of the school as it became Emporia State University. Emporia State University not only educates teachers through its Teachers College, but it also offers degrees in business, liberal arts and sciences, and library and information management. ESU offers bachelor's, master's, and education specialist degrees, as well as a doctor of philosophy degree.
Since its founding, ESU has improved the lives of students from Kansas, throughout the U.S., and around the world. This semester, the student body comes from 100 Kansas counties, 45 States, and 55 countries. ESU's alumni base of more than 38,000 individuals lives in all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
