  • Description

Volunteer in Nepal! Children's programs are fun and they are a great way to make a difference in the lives of little ones - everyone can contribute at orphanages, day cares, and schools.

Orphanages - These organizations are great places to volunteer. The organizations really need activity directors, tutors, and mentors for the kids. The children range in age from toddlers to teenagers. This is a great placement for independent, up-beat volunteers who like to have fun and want to make a difference in the lives of little ones!

Typical Day: Please keep in mind that there is no truly typical day while volunteering abroad. Volunteers generally work 4-6 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Volunteers day-to-day activities vary from placement to placement and volunteer to volunteer. Volunteers' exact schedules are determined when they arrive in country.

7:30am - Breakfast provided at the volunteer house

8:30am - Arrive at the orphanage, help the kids get ready for school

9:30am - Walk the kids to school

10:00am - Play with kids who are too young to go to school or free time

12:30pm - Lunch and Free Time

3:00pm - Kids get home from school, volunteers help with homework

4:00pm - Snacks, activity and play time (this is the busiest time of the day)

6:00pm - Dinner (volunteers can choose to eat with the kids or at the volunteer house)

Evenings and weekends are free to explore Kathmandu and other popular tourist sites like Chitwan and Pokhara.

Schools - ELI places volunteers teachers at a few primary and secondary schools in the Kathmandu Valley, in the Rasuwa District, and at a monastery. The minimum time commitment is 1 month. Most volunteers teach English, as this skill helps children to get jobs once they are out of school, and few children have the opportunity to study with a native speaker.

Typical Day: Volunteers generally work 4-6 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Volunteers day-to-day activities vary from placement to placement and volunteer to volunteer. Volunteers' exact schedules are determined when they arrive in country.

7:30am - Breakfast provided at the volunteer house

9:00am - Arrive at school, attend to morning classes

    12:30pm - Lunch

    1:30pm - Afternoon class

3:00pm - School is out, free time

6:00pm - Dinner (volunteers can choose to eat with the kids or at the volunteer house)

Evenings and weekends are free to explore Kathmandu and other popular tourist sites like Chitwan and Pokhara.

School for HIV+ Children- This is the first school of it's kind in Nepal. HIV+ children are not allowed to enroll at regular schools, so volunteers are needed to teach English, help with administrative duties, etc.

Dual Programs- We are currently offering dual placements to volunteers who would like to teach part time at a monastery and volunteer part time at an orphanage. Volunteers teach at the monastery 3 days a week until the early afternoon, and then spend the rest of their time at a nearby orphanage or a day care for poor families playing with and tutoring the children.

Check our website for current start dates. Participants arrive in Kathmandu on these dates, as group orientation will start the following morning.

  • Highlights

Volunteers typically volunteer 4-6 hours a day at school and orphanage (afternoons are the busiest), and then you have evenings and weekends free to trek in the Himalayas, rent a boat in Pokhara, or ride elephants in Chitwan National Park - there is much to see and do!
