The hospitals in Thailand are known the world over for their advanced and professional care. Students who intend to pursue a career in medicine can now learn about the medical system in Chiang Mai firsthand. This program is ideal for students who would like to learn about tropical diseases and public health issues in the region. Students shadow doctors and assist staff Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm. Placements are available for medical students and pre-meds with junior or senior status. Interns with this program live with other participants in the volunteer house.
Orientation includes a city tour, language class, visit from a Thai travel nurse, assistance in setting up a Thai cell phone, and a chance to meet all the other new ELIers.
Medical interns in this project will quickly learn why Thailand has become a medical center for much of Asia. The high level of technology in Thailand's hospitals and the highly qualified bilingual staff that operate hospitals in Thailand have made Thailand a medical hub for Asia. Interns are paired with a Thai doctor who supervising them through their internship.
The program includes pre-departure assistance, airport pick-up, orientation and nurse consultation when you first arrive, accommodations at the sanctuary, 2 meals a day, and 24 hour assistance by our in-country team. Volunteers purchase their own plane tickets and travel insurance.
It is best if interns arrive in Chiang Mai on a date below before 8pm, so orientation can take place over the weekend and interns can start at the hospital bright and early on Monday.
