This program focuses on children's and women's rights. Our partner organizations work tirelessly for the promotion of gender justice, non-discriminatory and rights-based behaviors and practices. Among the thousands of individuals who are trafficked across Nepal's borders every year, the majority is women and children. It is estimated that Nepali women aged 15-30 make up 2.8% of the women in Indian brothels, and the numbers are sharply rising. Participants in this program often assist with research and reports and assist with grassroots projects as needed. Participants can choose to work with an organization that specifically works with marginalized Nepali women and children or an organization that works with Tibetan refugees.
Participants arrive in Kathmandu on these start dates, as group orientation will start the following morning:

ELI partners with local, sustainable organizations that well-established in this field. We also work hard to ensure that volunteers get a chance to explore beautiful Nepal! Participants usually take weekend trips to float on the lake in Pokhara and ride the elephants in Chitwan. Visit our website to view a photojournal from a past intern.
These placements are open to participants with education in a relevant field or those with significant NGO experience who are motivated and do not require a lot of supervision. Especially needed are participants with legal, grant writing, or public health backgrounds. The minimum time commitment is 4 weeks.
