Description

No classes, no group. Individualized and customized to each participant's time frame. Experiential learning in its truest form! Students live one-on-one with families with the goal of becoming entirely immersed in the culture. Their focus is to speak and learn entirely in the target language with their individual host families.

The families we choose for these total immersion experiences are committed to involving and including our students in their daily lives for the duration.

This very special program is designed for high school students who:

* Will have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year and at least three years of Spanish or French by June 2012.
* Are motivated, adventurous, and have an independent nature.
* Are serious about speaking only Spanish while in Spain or French while in France.
* Are committed to the belief that total immersion is the most effective way of developing foreign language proficiency.

ECI has developed an extensive network of coordinators in Spain and France who are committed to finding families who look forward to completely sharing their lives with our students during the summer. Our coordinators do not work for a language school; rather, they work directly for ECI.

The families do not host students to earn money; rather, they hope to develop a lifelong friendship with an American teenager. They share their daily lives, culture, home and food. They take students on excursions, involve them in family events, and introduce them to friends and relatives. They are usually comprised of mother, father and children, often of the same age as our visiting teen.

* Transportation from ECI representative or host family back to designated point of departure.
