Volunteer for three months in our two foster family communities in the stunning Kaluga region, south of Moscow. Up to 50 orphans are cared for by foster parents. They are given a family, a home, education and love in a supportive community environment. Come and teach English to the children, take part in community life, in the kitchen, garden and on the farm and have loads of fun!
Kitezh is a child-centred, therapeutic education community. Set on 100 hectares of land it has a number of wooden houses, a school, a church and a farm, with natural woodlands and a lake nearby. As a volunteer, you will live with a family, teach English to children and take part in the daily working and social life of the community, like gardening, cooking, building.
The friendly environment means it is an excellent opportunity for practicing your Russian. Most of our volunteers are 18-30, some older, from many different countries, all looking for a worthwhile experience abroad. Ideally, you will have some English teaching experience, a basic level of Russian or at least an interest in learning Russian. You will be flexible and willing to adapt to a new culture, interested in people and community living, and get on with children.
No special qualifications required although any of the following would be useful: some knowledge of Russian, TEFL or experience in teaching English, and experience of or interest in working with children (sports, arts and crafts, music, drama).
