Description
Our Bachelor degree will interest you if you are aiming for senior management positions and an international business career in hospitality.
The programme is focused on personal development, and mirrors a progression in hotel hierarchy: You will start with a solid grounding in hospitality service fundamentals, followed by courses on managerial competencies, and continue on to specializations and advanced management skills.
In the final year, you will consolidate everything you have learned through an external consulting mandate or an individual applied research project. You will also take part in two internships, one in operations and one in management, which will provide the real-life experience needed for a flying start in your career.
The programme has two yearly intakes, one in September and one in February.
Highlights
Preparatory year: Immersion in the world of hospitality. Internship in Operations.
In your first year, you will be completely immersed in the world of hospitality. This preparatory year is a career accelerator which will give you hands-on experience essential to your future role as a manager. It embodies our unique philosophy of teaching which combines the art and science of management. You will deepen your hospitality culture, being exposed to a wide range of subjects including humanities, science and technology, economy and markets, politics and society - all within a hospitality context.
Our values of excellence, our "savoir-faire" and "savoir-être" are transmitted through our teaching of culinary and other hospitality arts. You will develop your "manual intelligence" through diverse operational posts, acquiring both practical knowledge and an understanding of managerial implications. The preparatory year culminates with an intense 24-week operational internship.
Year I: Principles of hospitality management
Courses in year 1 concentrate on the core business competencies required to manage revenues and costs, as well as on the people skills needed to implement plans successfully. Courses will focus on business fundamentals applied to the hospitality sector - accounting and economics, marketing, business law, and human resources management.
You will work in small teams throughout the year, which will help develop your interpersonal and leadership skills. By the end of the year, you will have acquired the knowledge necessary to deal with everyday management issues efficiently, plus the tools which will allow you to become an effective decision-maker.
Year II: Creating added value. Industry internship at management level
Year II is built around three integrated modules which transcend the traditional academic subject areas. Each module is centred on a different aspect of value creation for the company - its customers, and stakeholders. You will apply this value creation concept to multiple facets of hospitality management, including human resources, finance, marketing, and operations. Through our integrated approach to teaching, you will be better prepared for the complex decisions you will face as a hospitality leader.
Modules include projects specifically designed by our professors in collaboration with industry experts to develop critical thinking skills. You will learn how to mine customer data to identify what clients really want, and to build the right customer experiences. Throughout the year, we will help you discover not only how to create value, but also how to market it an ability which will later make you indispensable as an innovative leader.
A 20 or 24 week managerial-level internship will allow you to put your knowledge into practice, and prepare you for your next step up the hospitality management hierarchy.
Year III: Developing strategic vision. Concentrations.
Your final year will focus on advanced management skills, building on all the knowledge acquired during previous years. You will be offered numerous hands-on learning opportunities, working in close collaboration with industry specialists. You will study strategic management and participate in Live Case Studies with experts from the hospitality industry who will draw on their experience to provide you with feedback and guidance. During Strategic Investment Days and the Strategy Challenge, you will be exposed to real life industry situations, which will greatly contribute to both your personal and professional growth.
In Year III, you will also select your degree's concentration, in line with your career interests. You will focus on a specific discipline such as finance, entrepreneurship or marketing, working in small groups with professors who are specialized in each field.
Diploma Project
You will complete your curriculum with a final project, selecting either a Student Business Project, or an Individual Applied Research Project. If you choose a Student Business Project, you will integrate a small team of students mandated to carry out a consulting assignment for an external real-life client, which can range from market studies and business analyses to the creation of new hospitality and F&B concepts. More than 70% of Student Business Projects have seen their proposals implemented by the company that mandated the project.
If you choose the Individual Applied Research Project, you will be mentored by a PhD professor, and acquire the methodologies necessary to conduct your own applied research project. You will be mandated to solve an industry-specific challenge using both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
