Term
Academic Year
Dates
August through May
The Academy Year is an intensive one-year program for students with a serious interest in fundamental questions about politics, ethics, art, and philosophy. Students divide their time between required core courses and elective seminars. The core curriculum begins with The Republic and Its Interlocutors, a semester-long investigation of Platos Republic in its cultural, political, and philosophical context. Electives allow students to complement the shared curriculum with specialization in areas such as art history, philosophy, or comparative literature. Many AY students have already completed a year of postsecondary education at another institution; others enroll in the program immediately after high school as an alternative to early specialization in one field.

ECLA of Bard is a liberal arts university dedicated to the integrated study of values. Questions about values - such as justice, beauty, and truth - are placed at the centre of a rigorous curriculum. Academics from many different backgrounds work together on issues that have relevance far beyond academia. Students from over 30 countries, and a select international faculty, work together in small classes and one-to-one tutorials that encourage thoughtful dialogue.
