Eastern Michigan University, located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a comprehensive university that was founded by the state legislature in 1849. The fifth largest university in Michigan with an enrollment exceeding 23,000, EMU offers more than 200 graduate and undergraduate programs. Eastern Michigan University provides numerous services designed to help students achieve academic success. These include tutoring, a writing clinic, and counseling. In addition, the University has established several offices, including Equity Programs for minority students and Handicapped Student Services for students with specialized needs. Eastern Michigan offers a low ratio of students to faculty (20:1), most classes are taught by full professors, and faculty are easily accessible and responsive to students' academic needs. Eastern Michigan University is committed to excellence in teaching, the extension of knowledge through basic and applied research, and creative and artistic expression. Eastern Michigan University offers a variety of study abroad programs including Cultural History Tours, travel and study tours, direct exchanges, intensive language and winter break programs. Most programs are open to students from any college or university. EMU students can apply financial aid awards toward the programs. We also provide advising and information about study abroad opportunities available through other universities, work or volunteer opportunities abroad and budget travel.
