Description

Denmark is world renown for its design tradition; not surprisingly, in 2008 Copenhagen was named the Design Capital of the World by the British magazine Monacle. The objectives of the DIS Architecture & Design are to expand students professional skills and knowledge through interaction with Danish architects and designers, familiarize students with contemporary Danish, Scandinavian, and European architecture, design, and theory, and to enable students to recognize and analyze the effects of cultural, economic, and political life on architecture and design, and vice versa. Studio work is the backbone of the program and aims at training you in the process of design as practiced in the Danish tradition; at reaching design solutions to concrete, real-life assignments in the fields of architecture and urban design; and at acquiring an understanding of how these problems are solved within the Danish and European context.

Architecture, Interior Architecture, Information Design (Graphic/Communication Design) and Urban Design are offered in the fall, spring and summer. Furniture, and Textile Design are offered only in the summer. For students enrolled in non-studio based architecture programs or in liberal arts fields such as art history or studio art, we offer a Pre-Architecture program that will allow students to develop their 3D skills, as well as allow students with limited spatial design experience to further their design skills in a different cultural context. The Pre-Architecture Foundations studio is vertical-- meaning that all students are taught to their individual abilities. Come to Denmark and become inspired by all that is around you!

Highlights

Unlike most other programs abroad, full-pledged studio work is the backbone of the DIS program. Additionally, core courses and electives include several field studies to important historical and contemporary architectural landmarks in the Copenhagen region.

To participate in the Architecture & Design program, you must be enrolled at a professional school or department of architecture or design at the junior, senior or graduate level. For Pre-Architure, students must have a documented background in fine arts or studio art and have taken a course in drawing.

Scholarships are Available

The DIS Board of Directors has allocated scholarship funds to help you afford to study in Denmark. Scholarships consist of grants in the range of USD 1,000 to 5,000 per semester. Summer scholarships range from USD 300 - 1000 depending on your program selection. All scholarships are awarded based on financial need.
