During summer 2012, DIS offers 25 three-credit courses within a variety of academic fields. The courses are offered in two consecutive sessions, 13 in Session 1 (May 23 - June 14), and 11 in Session 2 (June 17 - July 6). In Session 1, there are no study tours, but rather field studies around course-related destinations in Copenhagen (see below). In Session 2, the courses include a five-day study tour in Scandinavia or Europe. Early summer courses offer great flexibility in terms of length of study (three or six weeks) and course selection, while the professional programs, on the other hand (Architecture, Design), are thoroughly integrated programs of six or seven weeks. Summer study abroad programs, like those during the semester, are demanding and of high academic quality.
You are expected to prepare for and attend classes, hand in assignments, and take responsibility for your own learning. Do not expect to work more than at home, but expect to work more than you might anticipate from a summer abroad program. Most DIS courses are taught by permanent, part-time Danish faculty who hold full-time positions in academia, government, business and other professions. The DIS student body is a diverse group of bright, high achieving third or fourth year students from ranking American universities and colleges, making the classroom and study tours a highly inspirational academic and social setting.
