Description

Migration & Conflict will introduce students to the diversity of immigrant and minority populations in Europe - in terms of language, ethnicity, religion and culture - and the challenges they fact in their host societies; with special opportunity to study Muslim and Jewish migrants/minorities. Examine the complexity of minority-majority relations and the breadth of responses to issues caused by migration as seen from the minorities, majorities, activists, academics, citizens, and by national, EU, and international decision-makers. Gain insights into violence from - from day-to-day harassment to holocaust & genocide - as a perennial component of minority-majority relations; and the history of migration, minorities & minority-majority relations in Europe. Apply what you're learning to new environments on study tours to Istanbul as well as Southern Sweden. You'll see the world through different eyes!

Highlights

Study tours include a short regional study tour to the Sweden early in the semester and a longer European study tour to Istanbul during the mid-semester study break.

The Migration & Conflict study tours address issues of ethnicity, nationality, ethnic and national conflict, migration, integration and multiculturalism through visits to immigrant organizations, talks with politicians and minority representatives, and tours to historical sites associated with the overall topic.

Additionally, all courses include field study visits to relevant institutions and organizations in Copenhagen.

Scholarships are Available

The DIS Board of Directors has allocated scholarship funds to help you afford to study in Denmark. Scholarships consist of grants in the range of USD 1,000 to 5,000 per semester. Summer scholarships range from USD 300 - 1000 depending on your program selection. All scholarships are awarded based on financial need.
