Poverty in Peru has its roots in high rates of illiteracy, lack of essential services, and inadequate agricultural resources and training. Many children leave school early to help support their families. In Jaen and Lima, volunteer participants help build schools and their related facilites for working children. This will include anything from digging foundations to mixing cement to installing windows and doors. These educational centres provide meals and teach students important life skils that will enable them and their families to improve their lives. Our Host Partners, CEPRONAM in Jaen and IFEJANT in Lima, are well established, local, non-profit agencies working for the rights of women and children while providing education and support to working children.
Volunteers benefit from working in a group, which offers the sense of team work and group accomplishment. Volunteers work with and alongside locals. By working together, one benefits from a real sense of global citizenship and solidarity. All experiences are led by an experienced team leader who helps facilitate the experience. Volunteers benefit from the lasting friendships developed and from the life changing impact of such a unique and meaningful experience. Participants may choose to spend time afterwards exploring some of the most beautiful scenery, exotic sites like world famous Machu Picchu, and rich cultural heritage of Peru.
No training or specific skills are required.
