CRAWL society is a blooming organisation that really works hard to establish itself. I worked there in July 2007 for one month together with Hanne. We did some teaching to kids from 4 to 14 years old, food delivery and wound care for children and poor people living in the streets of Calcutta. Back then it was my first time India and working in the project really gave me lasting impressions. I was very happy to work with Subhamita and Kakoli. They are strong and very kind women, who worked eagerly to develop CRAWL into the project that it is today. In November 2009 I went back to Calcutta and paid them a visit. The project is still going well and a lot of children are coming to class. If you are looking for a young organisation that really can use your help and will gladly guide you trough your India experiences, I can definitely recommend this amazing project. Best of luck, Jo from Belgium Volunteer in July 2007
English version: Four of my friends and I worked with CRAWL for three weeks in July 2008. I was a first-year med student at that time. We joined the projects at Sealdah and DumDum station and some in the school. It was a really cherished and unique experience in my life. When arriving at the stations, we saw many street people and children live around. For them, the station is their home. Somehow, the mix of smell and noise brought the thrill, chaos and even energy of life. Regarding the work, we did a lot of wound care there and many wounds were very bad. Several people came to us for help when their wounds had already become severely infected. For the street people and children at the station, the lake of medical service is a big problem. Thus, the free medical check-up service offered by CRAWL really helps them a lot. Besides, the work experience with the volunteers and staff of CRAWL were good. The staff really care about the unprivileged people and children who are neglected by most of the people. Last but not least, it will be a very impressive and irreplaceable thing to work with CRAWL and to meet the unprivileged people and children there.
CRAWL was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life. If you want to feel enriched and meet truly remarkable people, this is the program for you. Regardless of what field you come from and what experience you may have, CRAWL will find a way for you to make a difference. There's not a day that has gone by since I left the program where I do not think of the work I did and the children we helped - thank you CRAWL.
I first voluteered with Crawl in 2007, I was there for 2 weeks and took part in the street feeding program at Dum Dum Station and the Sealdah station. I was also involved in the school program for the street children, and the womens group doing crafts. Crawl was a very interesting, worthwhile organization to be involved with, I then decided to travel back to Crawl in 2008 with a friend from Canada. We both would like to return, the children are wonderful, the staff at Crawl is very caring and considerate. I would not hesitate to return to Crawl and would recommend this charity to anyone wishing to make a difference, the difference we find is often with ourselves. India is interesting, exciting, nothing like anywhere I have been before. The train ride to the feeding programs are thrilling, I have never had a sense of no personal space, as I have felt here. I loved being there with Crawl, I loved the people. Debbie Tremblay
It was a fantastic experience and whilst it is a new organisation, I believe it will thrive. I will go again!
