Description

As a Connect-123 intern in Barcelona, you will get the chance to work in one of a range of different human rights agencies, legals centers and departments based in and around the city., allowing you to grow your knowledge and experience while working on opportunities that could include working directly with lawyers at a legal aid clinic, researching human trafficking legislation, researching Spanish and European legislation and jurisprudence in relation to human rights issues, offering paralegal advice on socio-economic issues, and working as an advocate's assistant.

We are also in touch with several leading public policy organizations, think tanks and development agencies in and around Barcelona and can facilitate a range of related opportunities. Activities may include research, advocacy, policy development and capacity building in areas such as education, human rights, gender issues, public health, social protection and the environment.

The city offers everything from urban parks to bustling business sectors, to world-famous works of art and some of the most amazing architecture in the world! And there are as many fascinating museums and Medieval Gothic churches as there at top restaurants and clubs. Barcelona is alive with activity and lives up to its reputation as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.

Stepping outside the city limits there are countless areas to visit in the rest of the Catalonia region. Just a short distance away you can visit the monumental city of Giron - which has less tourist traffic than Barcelona, but offers just as much in the way of festivals, cultural activities and restaurants. Or why not visit Figueres and spend the day exploring the Theatre Museu Gala Salvador Dali or soak up the Mediterranean in Sitges and the Costa Daurada?

Based on your specific interests and goals, we will find a unique opportunity that best meets your needs. Spanish is not a requirement for all programs and supplemental Spanish lessons are offered to all program participants.
