Concordia is a private, Christian, liberal arts university open to students of any faith. Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, Concordia University is committed to the dual purpose of preparing students for life and for a living.
Concordia provides a challenging, yet supportive learning environment where spirited intellectual inquiry strengthens our commitment to justice, compassion and moral integrity. We respect diversity, and integrate faith into every aspect of learning, service and life.
Concordia University's 14-acre campus is nestled in a residential neighborhood just minutes from Portland, Oregon's vibrant downtown. More than 1,000 students from all over the United States and the world come to explore subjects including psychology, biology, theology, health and fitness management, humanities and education at our Christian liberal arts university. Founded in 1905, Concordia was a high school and a junior college before it awarded its first baccalaureate degrees in 1980. Graduate degree programs within the College of Education were established in 1996. Concordia University, Portland, is a member of the Concordia University System, a nationwide consortium of ten Christian colleges and universities affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Accreditation: Concordia is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
Students: 1,400 plus students, 60% women, 40% men.
Faculty: 51 full-time faculty members with the majority holding terminal degrees in their fields. 18:1 student/faculty ratio.
Academic Climate: As a student at Concordia University, you'll attend small, intimate classes and laboratories taught by professors who know you by name, not by social security number. A combination of classroom and practicum experiences will offer you the opportunity to acquire the skills that employers and graduate school admission counselors are looking for. Most importantly, you'll be challenged, yet supported in a rigorous environment. You'll learn to think critically, analyze and process complicated information logically, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing -- all within a community where values are important.
