We are looking for volunteers interested in learning farming/gardening skills while participating in a social project at an orphanage. Since its creation in 2007 our organic farm has grown immensely and this year we have added an apprenticeship program to get our teenagers involved in the project. Volunteers will be responsible for daily maintenance and will also work closely with the teenagers. A desire to work with adolescents is essential! Organic farming skills are very welcome since our project is young and our team is still learning. However, this is not a must and you will quickly learn the basics. It is important that you be ready to work hard and have a willingness and ability to do physical labor!
Open to volunteers willing to work approximately 6 hours a day in a team of Brazilian staff, adolescents, and international volunteers. We need enthusiastic, hardworking, and nature-loving volunteers. We are situated at the outskirts of the Tingua nature reserve, which means that you will be surrounded by beautiful green mountains. This is a fantastic experience and a great opportunity to get to know Brazil, its people, the local way of life, and yourself on an entirely new level!
You will be living and working in a community of Brazilians, international volunteers, and the children of the orphanage. This creates a warm family atmosphere and provides for an incredibly rewarding experience. The lush green mountains surrounding the farmland and the chance to get to know Brazilian culture make the experience complete.
* Intermediate Portuguese skills and/or fluent Spanish
* Experience in working with children and teenagers
* 6 months - 2 years volunteer/trainee period
* Minimum age: 21
* Willingness to work hard (physical labor) and get dirty!

Casa do Caminho is an orphanage situated in a rural town near a rainforest, outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our mission is to help and take in children and adolescents in vulnerable social situations; to stimulate their development in fraternal cohabitation with nature while offering social, cultural, vocational, and sports programs; to promote the psychosocial restructurization of the family, and ultimately to facilitate the reintegration of this population into their families and society at the appropriate time.
