These provide a platform for discussion of a wide range of subjects using the situation of Vukovar and surroundings as an illustration of post-conflict conditions in general.

The participant will be encouraged to think about these situations creatively and to form his/her own opinions about them.

Please note: assistance with bachelors, masters and doctoral thesis research also is available - please see contact for details.

Optional Extras: Course in Croatian Language and Culture

Sightseeing: While you are in Vukovar, there will be possibilities for excursions to locations around the Balkans.

    Vukovar Film Festival
The program will consist of films from the most interesting cinematography of ten Danube River Basin countries. The intention of this festival is to give Vukovar a new dimension in its cultural life and be an incentive for the renewal of the city. This occurs during the summer

    Exit festival
The Exit festival came into being in the year 2000 as an act of rebellion against the regime of Slobodan Miloaevi that had been keeping Serbia out of touch with the outside world for years. That summer, thousands of young people from Novi Sad gathered in the university campus park near the Danube where concerts, parties and art performances took place. There were also discussions and debates where the young people were able to express their opposition to the imposed nationalism, xenophobia, censorship and repression of the Miloaevi regime. The event lasted for 100 days and its grand finale was the 'Get out to Vote' party, which was held one day before the elections that saw the downfall of Miloaevi. The festival now lasts for four days.

    Other Excursions
Excursions can be organized easily to Osijek, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Budapest, the Croatian and Montenegrin coasts and other parts of the region. Such excursions are the responsibility of the participant. CWWPP staff will assist with logistics as staff time permits. The costs of such excursions are not included in the course contribution.

  • Coalition for Work with Psychotrauma and Peace's Mission Statement

The mission of the CWWPP is the empowerment of people in transitional countries, particularly at grassroots level. Our purpose is to decrease and prevent the adverse effects of psychotraumatization. In order to do that, we have been undertaking actions such as: counseling, general public education on mental health and the education of professionals and non-professionals in the techniques of dealing with psychological trauma and in mediation. We have been working in the field with different beneficiary groups such as former soldiers, schizophrenics, invalids, youth, alcoholics etc. We strongly believe that long-term strategies rather than short-term repairs are needed to promote processes and initiatives to build stable and strong inter-communal relations.
