A person's intelligence used to be clearly delineated between being considered 'streetwise' or academically successful. People either went to an institute of higher learning soon after graduating high school or they relied on their street smarts to make their way in the world.
But there's a new kind of savvy to strive for - we call it Citywise - and it comes from a unique blend of experiences, both in and out of the classroom.
Becoming Citywise is about spending some time experiencing the real world, learning how you relate to people and what is truly important to you, and thus having both the experience and formal education necessary to decide the direction you want to take your life and your career.
It's a perspective on life that celebrates all types of learning and acknowledges that we are constantly growing, evolving and absorbing knowledge from a variety of sources. The Citywise philosophy is the evolution of higher education, one that CityU is at the forefront of.
Education comes from all angles. Be Citywise.
CityU was founded as City College in 1973. We changed our name in 1982 to City University better reflect our growth and academic offerings and in 2007 to City University of Seattle to more strongly identify with the region we call home. From the beginning, CityU has been about giving real people the real tools they need to succeed in the real world. Practical education from experienced professionals - people who know what it takes.
More than 35 years later, CityU is one of the Northwest's largest private nonprofit universities, with 45,000 graduates and counting.
