Description
Helping you find the academic program that best suits your personal, professional, and academic goals can be as easy as letting the Center for International Studies (CIS) facilitate your international degree experience. The subjects offered by our partner institutions vary, but can generally be divided into four categories: bachelor's degree, graduate or postgraduate diploma, master's degree, and Ph. D.
* Bachelor's Degree
At most of our partner universities, the bachelor degree is three years in length. The exceptions are at Bond University where you can complete a bachelor degree in two years, attending class year around, and at Limerick University where bachelor degrees are four years. Also, depending on the program you choose, you may find that the degree is longer in length (i.e., architecture, law, or engineering). Students who excel academically may be invited into an 'honors' degree program that involves an additional year of study. Students who achieve high results in their honors year may be offered direct entry into Masters or Ph.D. programs.
* Graduate/Postgraduate Diploma
While there is no true equivalent in the U.S. system, the grad dip, as it is commonly referred to, is usually an intensive, one-year course work program open to students who already hold a bachelor degree. The diploma can be used for some as a 'bridge' for those wishing to change career fields or for those who must fulfill prerequisites for a graduate degree. It can also lead to professional certification in some fields.
* Master's Degree
The masters degree is similar to that of the U.S. degree and generally takes 2 - 21/2 years to complete. You will find three types of master's degrees at our partner institutions: masters by coursework; masters by coursework and research; and, masters by research. Masters by coursework is a degree that requires the student to attend classes and complete projects and assignments. Assessment is by written examination and assignments. Masters by research programs do not include any coursework. You will be expected to produce a thesis, developed by research of a topic that has been approved by an advisor. The Masters by coursework and research typically includes one year of coursework and a research project that is related to your specific area of interest.
* Ph.D.
The Ph.D. is generally a 3-5 year program of self-directed research that culminates in a major dissertation.
Why CIS?
Our services are free to you. We do not charge you for any of the work we do on your behalf - we are paid representatives of the universities for whom we work. By using our services you will actually save money as we take care of most of the costs of international postage, faxing and phone calls. Next, you should realize that you will be directly enrolled in the foreign university. CIS does not offer a "program", but merely is assisting you with enrolling in the university that you select.
Here are just a few of the ways in which we will assist you during the enrollment process:
* advising you about degree selection and financial aid
* assisting you in processing your application and visa
* providing options for travel arrangements and health/travel insurance
* helping arrange accommodation that fits
* counseling you regarding pre-departure issues
* pairing you with an experienced staff member who will play an integral role in the enrollment process, by becoming the liaison between you and the foreign university to which you are applying
