  • Description

The summer Perspectives on European Unity combination program is designed for students with an interest in international relations and economics in Europe and the current issues affecting the European Union, as seen from the Irish and Spanish perspectives. The program combines separate courses focusing on European Unity in France and in Spain and allows students to compare and contrast the cases in the two countries.

    What You'll Learn:

The goal of the Perspectives on European Unity combination program is to give students an opportunity to explore the European Union from the perspectives of Ireland and Spain in order to develop a better understanding of the issues in two distinct European countries. Through visits to local cultural and historical sites, and through discussions, students will be able to compare and contrast the situation and issues in Ireland and Spain, and be able to articulate the way in which European Unity is viewed in each location.

    Academic Program:

The summer Perspectives on European Unity combination program involves two 3 ½ week academic sessions and is designed for students with an interest in the current state of the European Union from the perspectives of two of its member states. The program combines separate courses focusing on European Unity and allows students to compare and contrast the issues and view of each country.

During Session I, students on this program will study alongside students enrolled in the Dublin Irish Studies summer program. Established in 2003, the Irish Studies summer program is designed for students who want to improve their knowledge of Irish culture, while learning about Dublin and Ireland through classes, activities, and excursions.

During Session II, students on this program will study alongside students enrolled in the Seville Language and Culture summer program. Established in 2003, this program exposes students to the rich cultural, historical, and social heritage of Seville through the exploration of its art, culture, history, language, literature, religion and society.

    Academic Culture:

The program is made up of two 3 ½ week sessions. Courses typically meet every morning or afternoon, Monday to Friday, for three hours, with structured outings and one required overnight study tour each session. The courses are designed for U.S. undergraduates, so the teaching and learning methods will be familiar to participants. Moreover, all professors in the summer program are accustomed to teaching U.S. students.
