Description

This five week language immersion program is offered to high school students wishing to further their education in French language and culture. Students grades 9 through 11 are able to apply provided they have at least two years of high school French experience or the equivalent. The program is based in Paris where students will stay with a local host family and get the opportunities to learn more conversational French. Students attend class in the mornings and take courses in French language and literature, art history, and French history. Students may also participate in outdoor painting workshops. Paris is one of the culturally richest cities in the world and continues to be one of the fashion, art, and food capitals of the world. Students will prepare a written and oral presentation to be presented to the rest of the group about what they have learned from their time in France.

Highlights

1. All classes and excursions are taught by native French teachers and Choate faculty from the schools French department

2. Classes are in the mornings which leaves the afternoon for visits to the many museums and historical sites Paris has to offer

3. Past cultural excursions have included the Louvre, Versailles, and Monets house at Giverny, among others

4. The program begins with a three day introductory program at a country inn in the Loire Valley

5. Program cost includes airfare, tuition, meals and lodging, books, and entrance fees for group activities

Expenses not included in the fee are: passport, transportation to the Choate campus, transportation after return to the U.S., and personal expenses such as telephone calls and spending money. Expenses are based on the exchange rate effective September 1. Prices are subject to equitable adjustment should there be a significant change in the rate of exchange or in the airfare prior to the start of the program.
