Description

Immerse yourself in Jordanian culture while taking Arabic language courses. During this 4-week immersion program, students live with families, study Arabic, explore Jordanian culture and learn about Islamic arts.
Academics

The program is open to students who have completed one year of Arabic (or its equivalent). Students take courses in:

* Modern Standard Arabic (at a level appropriate to proficiency)
* Intensive Jordanian colloquial with teaching materials developed by the Al-Qasid Institute
* Jordan: Past & Present
* Traditional Islamic Arts

Arabic language and History classes are held at AMIDEAST headquarters in Amman and meet 5 hours per day, 4 days per week. Classes are taught by teachers with experience in teaching non-native speakers. Traditional * Islamic Arts is a workshop held at the University of Balqa in Salt.

In addition to course work, each student prepares an independent project to be presented in a written format and orally to the entire group.

Excursions

Students have the opportunity to discover the rich and ancient history of Jordan through weekly excursions to religious and archeological sites:

* Amman city tour: the Roman amphitheater, the Citadel, Downtown Amman and the King Hussein Mosque
* Biblical sites: Madaba, Mount Nebo and the Baptism site
* The Dead Sea
* Ajloun Castle and the preserved Roman city of Jerash

In addition to these local excursions, overnight field trips may include:

* Aqaba and the Red Sea
* Wadi Rum, the largest and most magnificent of Jordan's deserts, and the Nabataean city of Petra.
