CRER is a family-run conservation and sustainable tourism project. We have a private reserve with trails in the rainforest and we operate a Bed & Breakfast, restaurant service by reservation and a bar, all of which allow us to continue to work toward our sustainability dream.
Civic participation, solidarity with our community, conservation, environmental education and English as a second language are on-going programs integral to Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat.
Love and dedication is the foundation of Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat and somehow, without ever having the economic resources to back us up, we have managed to find supporters in our sustainability quest. Staying with us as guests at the Retreat and passing the word on is the easiest way to support us. Coming to work in solidarity with our community or being a volunteer at the Retreat is another great way to support our dream project and to allow us to continue to be able to work in conservation and support our local community Chilamate.
Chilamate is a critical section of the San Juan La Selva Biological Corridor which is part of the greater Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. You can see on the Costa Rican Bird Route´s map that the Corridor bottlenecks right at Chilamate, which means that there is much conservation work to be done in order to help maintain the flow of biodiversity through the Corridor. It is also one of the country´s most biologically diverse areas, home to over 500 bird species, 5000 butterfly species, 6000 types of plants, 350 species of trees, 139 mammal species, and 135 reptile species, just to mention a bit of the wildlife that depends on the perpetual conservation and expansion of protected areas in the region.
We are always looking for volunteers who are interested to support our project in whatever way they can, providing general support when we have guests at the Retreat and actively looking for projects that contribute to the environment or our community.
Since our project is small and family run we cannot provide an exhaustive job description but rather ask that potential volunteers come willing to help out in whatever way we need and whatever way they can. We are flexible and willing to take the time to get to know the interests of our volunteers so as to try and make the best of their stay.
For volunteers who are willing to make at least a 6-month commitment we can offer room and board here at the Retreat. For shorter term volunteers we charge a small monthly fee to help cover the expenses.
Family environment, Sarapiqui Riverfront, chance to participate in all of the adventures offered like rafting, kayaking, canopy, swimming, horseback riding, biking, hiking etc.
We are looking for flexible people willing to help wherever needed, self motivated, interested in helping the community and passionate about the rainforest or the environment. Please email us if you have interest and we will send you our application form.
