The nine-week summer program focuses on working alongside Vietnamese students to improve their community while gaining a deeper understanding of the issues facing Vietnam. The program starts in Ho Chi Minh City with roughly ten days of intensive Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies classes. Then, students go to two distinct areas in Vietnam and participate in community service projects such as teaching at a local elementary school, building a house for a needy villager, remodeling a school, or working in the fields side-by-side with local farmers. Students keep journals write reflective papers and complete a final project to earn three credits for this program. CET students live, work and eat alongside local Vietnamese peers during the program. A portion of the program's fees goes towards materials for the volunteer projects.
During the fall and spring semesters, CET also offers the program Vietnamese Studies & Service-Learning in Ho Chi Minh City. You can learn more about this program on the CET website.
