CET Intensive Arabic Language & Culture Studies in Tunis
Description
The CET Tunisia program is open to serious students of all Arabic language levels, including beginners. Tunis, the capital city, is the perfect place for challenge-seeking students who want to explore Tunisia's riveting transformation. Intensive Arabic language courses and electives taught in English guide students through an in-depth study of the region. Students return home with confidence, language facility and a nuanced understanding of Maghreb culture.
Electives in Middle Eastern studies examine social, historical and religious implications. Courses in Modern Standard Arabic and Tunisian Dialect allow students to experience for themselves the host society's dynamic undercurrent. Outside of class, students practice Arabic with their Tunisian language partner or explore a new corner of the city with their Tunisian roommate.
The medina, Tunis' old Arab quarter, dates from the 7th century and is ripe for exploration: mazes of covered alleys, ancient palaces, colorful markets alive with trade. The cosmopolitan downtown offers European-style cafés, theaters and art galleries. Students revel in this complex city, soaking in its history of over 4,000 years.
The CET Tunisia program operates in the neighborhood of Sidi Bou Said with its beautiful seaside views. CET Tunisia students share apartments with Tunisian roommates. All apartments are within walking distance of the CET center and offer fully equipped kitchens, televisions and washing machines. For meals, some students cook for themselves or with their Tunisian roommates. Others explore the campus area's many inexpensive restaurants and eateries. Excellent and inexpensive public transportation gives students easy access to both the city and its outskirts.
