Description
Deepen your understanding of Italian society by studying Italian art, language, history, economics and politics at this multi-faceted program in Florence. The program, jointly administered by Vanderbilt University, the Universita degli Studi di Firenze and CET, integrates students into the Italian culture through Italian housemates, a traveling seminar to Rome or Sicily and visits to Siena.
A variety of challenging courses takes students out of the classrooms and into the streets and museums of Florence and surrounding cities. Fall and spring semester students begin their term with two weeks of intensive Italian language. After that, students take one of the programs two core courses, Imagery and Public Space in Italy or Italian Cultural History, two or three elective courses and Italian language.
The summer program is open to beginning through intermediate language learners. Summer students take Italian language, Italian Cultural History and one elective course.

My experience with CET while studying abroad in Florence has been amazing. All of our classes were small and intimate, so I knew all of my teachers on an individual basis. Although the work is academically rigorous, this meant I got direct credit at my school. Our teachers did an excellent job of engaging us with hands on activities so we really experienced all the city had to offer for Renaissance Art and Architecture we saw famous artwork in museums.We went to Ferragamo Museum to learn about Italian fashion for Italian cultural history I made gnocchi to practice an Italian. The program director Anna is fantastic - she was always eager to answer any questions and organised cultural activities for us like a wine taster and a climb to the top of the Duomo.
Our apartment was in the very center of Florence, easily accessible to the school and the major sights. It was spacious and much nicer than my dorm room at school. My only issue was that two courses were required.

Interesting classes, fantastic professors, and unique cultural activities made for an excellent study abroad experience
CET provided me with a balanced study abroad experience. While the classes were challenging. They taught me how to truly appreciate the beautiful city of Florence. The apartment in the city centre gave me independence and the ability to immerse myself in the surrounding area. My professors and the program director were more than willing to give advice and answer questions. Overall, I was completely satisfied with my experience, I never want to leave!

Overview
CET's program influence is a great opportunity for art history students to study art and see it first hand. The program has an entire class dedicated to Italian culture and also enrolls the students inappropriate level of Italian.

Really great academics
Really great academics. The beginning level Italian class was not as helpful as I hoped. The people I am living with in my home stay are extremely nice and great cooks! Summer is a little tough though because there is no air conditioning. I was a little disappointed in the city of Florence itself because there were so many tourists. If you get away from the tourist locations you will enjoy your time much more.
