As an English Teaching volunteer you will participate in the English classes being taught in local educational institutions and directly with students wishing to further their English skills. These institutions currently include from a local non-profit English Language institute, local schools and a local orphanage. We are also creating an evening language exchange where you will be able to practice your Spanish as well as assist with Spanish.
You will "never" be expected to teach an English class alone. We know how daunting standing in front of a class and teaching is if you have no experience or training so we have designed the program so that you will never have to. You will always be assisting a Nicaraguan English teacher with their classes providing help with pronunciation, natural expressions, idioms and also participating in games, and language exercises. You do not need any formal teaching experience or training to fully participate and enjoy these classes.
Casa-Nica is a fresh, new style of international NGO located in Masaya, Nicaragua (known as the “cultural basin” of this beautiful sub-tropical country) that works with a multitude of Nicaraguan organizations and nonprofits in a variety of exciting and contemporary fields such as sustainable agriculture, non-traditional and traditional education, empowerment technology, micro-finance assistance, altruistic marketing, exotic animal care, cultural immersion and exchange, and is currently developing a medical volunteer program. Casa-Nica is unique in that we believe that, unlike many foreign NGO's that tend to impose their own agendas and waste precious resources in the process, the best way to do development work is by contributing to and working with preexisting organizations started and run by the Nicaraguans themselves.
While living at Casa-Nica, you will receive private to semi-private Spanish lessons 4 times-a-week from our accredited Chilean in-house language teacher, and participate in our weekly language exchanges with local Nicaraguans. Furthermore, you will be living with and be constantly surrounded by interesting people (that often speak multiple languages) from around the world who are desirous of doing good, and one can’t help but create a substantial network of fascinating friends and co-workers.
The English Teaching program at Casa-Nica offers a valuable way to volunteer in a developing country without needing any special skills or knowledge apart from speaking English. This program offers a perfect way to visit a developing country, see all it has to offer and give something back.
You do not need any Spanish language skills as all the people you will work with speak excellent English.
The English teachers and many of the older students love to socialize after class so you will get the opportunity to make friends with many locals and really get a feel for living in Nicaragua.
The classes are rarely of a formal nature and provide plenty of opportunity for having a lot of fun with the teacher and the students. in a variety of settings.
