Situated on the South side of El Yunque Rainforest, Casa Cubuy offers comfortable lodgings where you are surrounded by the beauty and wonders of this lush rain forest. Sunbathe on granite boulders worn smooth by eons of swirling waters, relax in a hammock on the verandah, read, or watch the clouds roll by in this peaceful setting of giant tree ferns, towering breadfruit trees, cascading waterfalls, and wild orchids.

From the ecolodge you can take easily walkable trails, which lead to the Cubuy and Sabana River pools, ideal for swimming. You’ll feel dwarfed amidst the bamboo, palms, fern trees, and colorful flora of the jungle. Waters at this elevation are clean enough to drink and refreshingly cool. You can hear the rushing sound of the waterfalls from your bedroom. Here, you will find birds, lizards, and the popular coqui frog!

Just a short trek up the road brings you to the El Yunque National Park entrance, which provides a number of different hiking trail options. Whether you prefer leisure walks through swaying bamboo or (for the experienced hiker in search of a challenge) the rugged terrain of the more difficult trails, we promise you an unforgettable vacation hiking, swimming, and relaxing in this remote paradise.

We are famous for our complementary fresh fruit breakfasts served at 9:00 AM. Guests have a chance to meet over coffee at 8:00 AM so that sitting down to breakfast becomes more like a gathering of friends. We at Casa Cubuy believe it is not necessarily the destination that makes travelers' experiences unforgettable, but rather the people they meet and share those experiences with. It is not unusual to hear four languages spoken at one time around the table!

Location

We are within the Proclamation Boundary of the El Yunque national Forest, which is a 28,000 acre nature reserve. There are 7 municipalities that ring the forest. We are on the South side in the municipality of Naguabo, one hour and fifteen minute drive from San Juan. Our physical address is State road #191, km 22. Note of caution: If you enter from the North side, where the visitors’ center is located, you cannot continue on road #191 to reach the South side. A landslide has blocked vehicle passage. To reach Casa Cubuy Ecolodge you must approach us from the South.

Directions to Casa Cubuy through Caguas
- Take #52 South towards Caguas from San Juan. (20 minutes)
- Take Exit 14 to Rd #1 about 500 yards past toll area. Keep right to make this exit.
- Stay Right on Road #1 for approximately 1 mile. (2 minutes)
- Go under the overpass and take the first exit onto Rd #30 (Sign says: Humacao) to Exit 14. (11 minutes)
- Take Exit 14 and turn Left onto Road #31.
- Follow this road through Rio Blanco until you come to a suspension bridge. (20 minutes)
- Cross over the bridge and turn Left onto Rd #191 (4 minutes)
- After 2 miles take another Left at a second bridge (concrete) and continue to follow #191 until you arrive at Casa Cubuy Ecolodge. (15 minutes)

Casa Cubuy will be on your right hand side, past Sierra Palms and the Casa Cubuy Restaurant. It is the second to last structure before the road ends after another half mile.

Directions from San Juan to Casa Cubuy via Fajardo
- Take Hwy 26 East, stay Left (4 minutes)
- Hwy 26 turns into Hwy 66, toll is $1.50 (10 minutes)
- Hwy 66 ends at a light next to an outlet mall
- Turn Right onto Hwy 3 East (30 minutes)
- Hwy 3 turns into Hwy 53 South, toll is $1.00 (15 minutes)
- Take Exit 22, which says “Rio Blanco and Juncos”
- Turn Right onto Hwy 31 (5 minutes)
- You will pass a metal suspension bridge. Do NOT turn Left onto it.
- Continue straight and Hwy 31 becomes Hwy 191
- After two miles turn Left at the concrete bridge on Hwy 191 and follow the mountain road (15 minutes)

Casa Cubuy will be on your right hand side, past Sierra Palms and the Casa Cubuy Restaurant. It is the second to last structure before the road ends after another half mile.
