Caño Palma Biological Station, part of the Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation (COTERC), is a biological research facility based in Costa Rica’s tropical coastal rainforests. The station is situated within the Barra Del Colorado Wildlife Refuge close to Caño Palma, a 20-meter canal filled with palm trees. Our compound is abundant with several varieties of tropical shrubs and plants.
We aim to extend our neo-tropical conservation efforts beyond the 40-square-hectare area of our station. Our staff, along with volunteers, organize regular monitoring projects that allow students, passionate conservationists, and graduates the opportunity to obtain work experience in a tropical setting. We also welcome independent researchers, providing them a base where they can conduct their studies.
