The international volunteers will support an income generation project that the local community has undertook to earn a living. The project involves precast building works and selling building materials. Volunteers will be involved in making and selling of building materials, including concrete mixing, mold building, administration, management and marketing.
The international volunteer project will be held in Nairobi City for 2 weeks. Volunteers will come together to demonstrate the power of voluntary service in meeting critical needs of the local communities. The main objective of the volunteer project is Income generation. All volunteers will first meet in Nairobi for orientation.
The project site is located in Donholm, in the Nairobi province, about 20 km away from Nairobi City. Public transport is available. The closest Hospital is 5 minutes walk. Markets, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other facilities are located in Buruburu, 5 minutes walk from the camp site.
There is an extra fee of 180 Euros for participation in this project, intended to support the local hosting organization.
The possible free time activities include visits to:
* Nairobi National Museum
* Bomas of Kenya
* Kenya National Archive
* Mamba Village
The visits will be organized during the weekends.
Cultural exchange: There will be cultural presentations where all the volunteers will have an opportunity to present their countries and cultures. Volunteers will be free to choose presentation methods like story telling, singing, dancing, drama, speeches, etc.
No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as web site design, marketing, civil or mechanical engineering) will be used accordingly.
