  • Description

    The volunteers will be involved in construction of water tanks for the group members, which involves different activities such as concrete mixing, plastering, floor renovation and roofing. Sometimes the volunteers will also spend time with the children in the community, talking and playing with them.

    All volunteers will first meet in Nairobi for orientation. There will be an orientation meeting on February 2nd. From Nairobi the volunteers will travel together to the project site. Departure will be on February 3rd.

    The project site is located in Voi, approximately 6 hours drive from Nairobi. The terrain is hilly and the weather is hot during this time of the year.

  • Highlights

    There will be cultural presentations where all the volunteers will have an opportunity to present their countries and cultures. Volunteers will be free to choose presentation methods like story telling, singing, dancing, drama, speeches, etc.

    Leisure activities: Excursion at Taita Hills, trips to local beaches in Mombasa, playing games, learning Swahili. The trips will be done during the weekends.

  • Qualifications

    The international volunteer project is organized together with Mwakiki community since 2009. The members of the community need water storage tanks to harvest rain water for domestic use.

    No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient, and be able to do physical work. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as masonry, architecture) will be used accordingly.

    Orientation will be conducted for the volunteers about the objectives and expectations of the program.
