Description
10 or 20 week hospitality internship opportunities at luxury safari lodges across Southern Africa.
This programme is an exciting and unique way to build international work experience and skills in the culinary, hospitality, or tourism industry, whilst living alongside African wildlife and wilderness. You will also have the opportunity to explore one of the most breath-taking and diverse countries in the world.
Each internship begins with a 2 week bush and wilderness orientation course on a Big-5 reserve run by leading FGASA-accredited trainers. This is followed by an 8 or 18 week work placement at one of Southern Africa's finest luxury safari lodges. Each position has been carefully developed to ensure you get the best experience possible and build upon your international skills and experience in the hospitality industry.
You will work in a pivotal role in lodge operations and participate in a skills exchange program with local staff, gaining an understanding of how luxury lodges work in Africa. You will also receive an introduction to the amazing wildlife that will surround you and above all, be immersed in diverse cultures. All these experiences and new skills will make a vibrant addition to your CV and catch the eye of future employers.
Highlights
In the intimate environment of a bush lodge you will develop basic bush knowledge and skills to ensure the safety of, and enhance the enjoyment of the experience of, your guests.
PICTURE THIS... whilst pouring a drink or checking in guests, the guest hears a bird call or spots a mammal running past the lodge... they will undoubtedly ask you what it is. We will help prepare you on the orientation course and teach you some basic identification skills to which you can add during your internship, making this an immensely unique and diverse experience.
PICTURE THIS... while walking back to your room you come face to face with a bull elephant feeding on a tree above your accommodation... what do you do?! We will help you prepare on the orientation course and teach you some basic animal behaviour to help you get out of these common situations safely and responsibly.
The 2-week orientation course will include the following topics which will prepare you for your internship placement:
* SA hospitality industry
* introductory course on birds
* Introductory course on mammals
* Introductory course on trees
* Introduction to SA wines
* Potentially Dangerous Animal Behaviour and safety (in camp context)
* Potentially venemous reptiles and insects
* Bush banqueting
* SA Health and Safety legislation
* General lodge policies and procedures
* First Aid Course
* Orientation to South Africa culture and history
* SA cuisine
* Game Drives
You will then take your newfound skills to you role in one of our partner luxury lodges on one of Southern Africa's finest game reserves.
