The BUNAC Volunteer South Africa program gives you the opportunity to volunteer and assist in the development of another country. You will be placed in projects in the Cape Town area to help the local communities with projects covering such areas as Social Welfare, Tourism, Conservation, and Education. A 7-day orientation is provided in Cape Town. All meals and accommodation are provided for the duration of your placement. Accommodation is usually at either the project site with other volunteers, or in the home of a local family. You will be provided with transportation to and from your project site. Participants are hosted in South Africa by SASTS (South African Student Travel Services). Both BUNAC and SASTS are work and volunteer abroad organizations dedicated to providing the best possible opportunities in international work and travel programs. You will receive support and assistance from SASTS while on your project. This assistance includes services such as mail holding, message taking, access to phones and computer facilities, as well as assistance in case of an emergency.
BUNAC offers volunteer work in South Africa through various community and conservation projects, giving you a chance to experience the culture, the people and much more.
To participate on the BUNAC Volunteer South Africa program you need to be a US/UK Citizen between the age of 18-35. You also need to be a current university level student, or a recent graduate, and be able to demonstrate relevant experience, positive motivation and flexibility.
The program fee is USD 2,030 for 5 weeks, USD 2,370 for 9 weeks, USD 2,810 for 13 weeks. This fee includes 3 months of comprehensive worldwide travel insurance, your pre-placement on a development project and your orientation in Cape Town upon arrival. The orientation includes 7 days hostel accommodation upon arrival, a township tour, winelands tour, Cape Point tour and Hermanus tour. All meals and accommodation are provided for the duration of your project placement. Accommodation is usually at either the project site with other volunteers, or in the home of a local family.
