Spain Food Studies
Description
From farm to table, this one-of-a-kind adventure is an up close exploration of the delicate flavors, complex science and unique culture of food in Spain.
Where does our food come from? How have farming practices, food tourism, and the rise of the "foodie" movement changed what and how we eat? Spain is the perfect backdrop for a fun, hands-on and eye-opening study of food. Across several regions of Spain, we eat, drink, surf, hike, marvel at Gothic architecture, and eat some more.
Venture to a cheese museum in Arenas de Cabrales and sample queso de Cabrales. Take a Basque-influenced cooking class in San Sebastian and learn to make pintxos, a regional take on tapas. Eat cured jamon with reckless abandon in Teruel. In Andalusia, spend a few days at an organic farmhouse learning about soil science and cultivating vegetables. In the vineyards of La Rioja witness the grape to glass process firsthand. Then, in Barcelona, take on an independent food-related project or study. Fittingly, we close out with a communal meal prepared by local Spanish chefs and reflect back on all the meals, experiences and amazing friendships that will stay with us long after the trip ends.
