  • Description

    The programme offers you a chance to use your experience and skills to assist local professionals, and enthusiasts, as they work with all sectors of society in a wide variety of settings promoting awareness and support for local cultures and the performing arts.

    Culture
    Working side-by-side with local artists, musicians, actors, authors, art gallery and museum curators, you will have the chance to promote an understanding and an appreciation of the cultures, customs and traditions of the city.

    Project centres are situated at several locations throughout the city, and previous volunteers have been involved with tasks including:

    * Developing museum exhibits.
    * Acting as tour or museum guides and translators.
    * Helping local collectors and staff to find artifacts and works of art for the museums and galleries dedicated to indigenous art and history.
    * Developing and promoting concerts and festivals.

    Performing Arts

    If you can play a musical instrument, sing, dance, write poetry, or have experience in the creative arts, and would like to pass on your skills to children and adults alike, the project gives you the opportunity to not only encourage and nurture their talents, but also boost their self-esteem and confidence. You will also help them to develop their interest and skills through play and creative education, and in the case of the children, help them achieve better results in their classroom studies.

    Working alongside full time and other volunteer staff at a variety of locations you will help introduce and encourage creativity and self-expression, whilst building the self-confidence of all those involved with your project.

    You will also have the chance to help out in the office, or become involved in other important activities, such as planning teaching workshops, arranging musical and theatrical evenings, or escorting visits to concerts and events.

    Some locations offer the possibility of working either Front or Back of House in theatres.
    Sessions are held throughout the day, and there is often the possibility of some evening and week-end work depending on the nature of the project, and all necessary instruments and support materials will be provided.

    Please note that an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish is required for most projects on our Culture and Performing Arts Programme. Please contact us for more details.

Our volunteers work in a variety of placements including sports coaching, orphanage support, street children, tourism, journalism and teaching assistant projects.
