  • Description

    If you love animals, the Bolivia Volunteers Animal Welfare placement will give you the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in the care, protection and rehabilitation of domestic and street animals that have been rescued because of injury, cruelty or captivity.

    In addition to cats and dogs, the centres we support often care for small birds, reptiles & mammals.

    Tasks are many and varied, including
    * Animal rescue
    * Food preparation and feeding
    * Cleaning, grooming and exercising
    * General site maintenance
    * Assisting in medication and surgery
    * Working in the community promoting owner-education
    * Visiting local neighbourhoods in mobile care units
    * Rehabilitation and adoption
    * Fund raising and general administration
    * Sharing your knowledge and skills with local staff
    * And of course, giving the animals the love and attention they so desperately need

    You will not only gain some fantastic work experience that would simply not be possible at home, but you will also experience first-hand a totally different attitude towards pets and animals than you are perhaps used to, whilst developing a better understanding of the problems faced by people in both urban and rural areas of an underdeveloped country.

    You will work alongside local professionals and volunteers, and be given a placement supervisor who will give you a full and varied insight into the tasks undertaken at your project.

    Joining the Animal Welfare project will give you a fascinating once-in-a-lifetime experience whilst making a meaningful and lasting contribution to the lives of the animals and people you work with. It will also enhance your personal development, strengthen your resume, and set you apart from the competition in future job interviews.

    The start date and length of stay are totally flexible depending on your availability, and placements are suitable for volunteers of all ages. Previous training or experience and a knowledge of Spanish will be an advantage, but are not necessary.

Our volunteers work in a variety of placements including sports coaching, orphanage support, street children, tourism, journalism and teaching assistant projects. Accommodation is provided through Family Homes so that volunteers are able to play an active part in a traditional family life and the local community.
