The Blue Mountain Project is a grassroots, nonprofit volunteer organization working in the rural villages of the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. We identify critical areas of needed development and facilitate sustainable solutions by living and working directly with the communities we serve. Our priority program areas of improving health, education, and the economy have been determined through consultations with communities and by a belief in a holistic approach to sustainable community development. The villages where we work are the most isolated communities in St. Thomas, the poorest parish of Jamaica. These communities are located near the peak of Jamaica's Blue Mountains, where most of the roads are dirt and at incredible inclines, which limit transportation, a serious barrier to economic, educational, and health resources.
