Description

Every year through BEST many two-parent, professional Spanish families host young women in their homes to benefit from the cultural exchange. They serve as English language models for the children of the family and have light responsibilities. In exchange for childcare, au pairs (from the French for "extra pair of hands") are treated as family members while they take advantage of other cultural, educational and work opportunities. An intensive Spanish language course is included to help to adjust.

Highlights

Experience living abroad with no prior foreign language skills. Live with and be a part of a Spanish family. An opportunity to enhance your language skills. You always receive room and board and 50 euros for spending money in exchange for 25 hours of child care. The number of hours per week that the family will need you is discussed with them before your arrival. BEST personally screens and interviews all potential au pair host families at their homes. Sometimes you are invited to travel with them too. This arrangement is sometimes compatible with work as a teacher's aide in children's EFL classes or with administrative work through BEST.

Qualifications

English as a Second Language and Au Pair
The program is open to native English speaking females between the ages of 18 and 25 who like and have experience with children. Non-smokers are preferred. She should have an interest in Spanish language and culture. (Basic Spanish is desirable but not compulsory.) The commitment is for 3 months with an option to renew for a longer period.
