  • Description

    This position is for Project Supervisor for the Berudep Sponsor an Orphan Project. The Project has 60 orphans, 2 local field workers, 2 volunteer fieldworkers and is developing every day. The Project Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the project. This includes administration, accounting, personnel, recruitment and development. The Project Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the transparency, accountability and sustainable development of the project.

    The Project Supervisor works under the umbrella organisation of Berudep and receives support from local staff.

    Day to day activities can include; overseeing the accounts, budgeting, managing the fieldworkers, communicating with sponsors, funders and partners, profiling orphans, grantwriting, running the After School Education Programme, training fieldworkers, recruiting new sponsors, and covering in the field when needed.

  • Highlights

    This job is highly rewarding and is at a grass roots level. Unlike other projects, 100% of sponsorship money is spent on the orphans without any being lost along the way on administration and bank fees. The Project Supervisor is able to see the direct impact of their work on a daily basis. This project provides education, medical treatment, clothes and food supplements to the neediest orphans in the rural community.

    This is an established project and has huge potential for further development. The Project Supervisor has a fantastic opportunity to see the efforts of their work materialise in the form of the project's development over their term.

    Berudep have a full time volunteer coordinator who will collect you from the airport in Douala and bring you up to the village of Belo (8 hours). You will receive a 3 day induction before being introduced to your placement. Once you are settled in your placement the volunteer coordinator will make regular visits and be on hand to offer support and advice throughout your stay.

    The area (Belo) is situated in the Bamenda Highlands and is one of the most beautiful regions of Cameroon. On your days off you will be able to go trekking and visit some of the local lakes and waterfalls as well as experience the local traditions, meet the tribe chief (the Fon), horseback riding with the nomadic Fulani tribe, see hippos in the wild and many other exciting things.

  • Qualifications

    No specific qualifications required although experience in management, accounting or social work will be beneficial.

    This is a rolling position meaning that as one volunteer leaves we have hopefully recruited the next volunteer who will receive one month training and handover from the previous volunteer.

  • Program Fees Include:

    There is a USD 100 admin fee for a one year placement. After that the volunteer just pays their own travel, food accommodation etc. A good estimate of monthly living costs is around USD 200 per month. This includes food, accommodation, electricity, a cook, travel, internet, etc.

    This is a volunteer placement. Unfortunately there is no funding for a stipend or salary.
