Volunteers working at this placement will be asked to organize information sessions and presentations for local schools as part of the Greening Program. Visual presentations and interactive games for the school children will help them better grasp and retain the information. Also through the Greening Program volunteers can work with the school children to plant trees in their school yards and clean up waste.
Volunteers can also help with monthly information sessions that are held for local conservation organizations as well as members of the general public.
There is a Botanical garden in Arusha where volunteers can help by clearing paths and tending to the plants and animals, identifying birds, trees, and insects in the area and creating informative booklets and help guides attend to visitors to the gardens.
Although the Arusha branch of the organization is fairly small, they still facilitate many important projects for the area. They can only afford to support two staff members, who work on: all administration, project development, communication with the main branch in Dar es Salaam, field work and community awareness.
They are currently focusing on their Greening Project in local schools. Through this program, school children will be educated on the importance of wildlife conservation. This project will also focus on improving the outdoor environment of the schools by removing garbage, laying grass and planting trees in the school yards. Volunteers are needed to create educational information and games to be played by the children so they remember the lessons.
Another campaign the society is working on is to protect the environment of the flamingos in the Lake Natron region. Their habitat is in danger due to industrialization. The WCST needs motivated volunteers to help continue these projects and ensure they are successful.
It is important that volunteers have an interest in conservation and/or the environment. A background in environmental science would be beneficial at this organization.
Also, experience creating brochures and charts for presentations as well as conducting presentations that are catered to children would be an asset. Photographing nature and tree planting experience would also be useful to volunteers interested in this placement.

We believe international volunteering promotes cross-cultural learning that helps create global awareness, understanding between cultures and provides the platform for positive change. Our volunteers have taught in schools, provided disaster relief support for the International Red Cross, conducted essential research to improve the management strategies of threatened environments, built homes for impoverished people, provided vocational training and programs for street kids and have worked in co-operation with hundreds of local organizations to distribute aid and improve the quality of life for people throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.
