  • Description

At this placement you would work to create and maintain an attractive website for AIDENICA, which includes their mission statement, values, organization history, contact info, and a photo gallery. You would also design a brochure and business cards.

You would work daily in the administrative office, with staff members. They would provide you with all the content they would like you to use on the website and brochures. Over the course of four weeks, you would build their website from scratch plus provide them with the finished products of the brochures and business cards. The staff would provide some input into the designs, but you would have a lot of creative freedom to make the designs through your own initiative.

Volunteers can properly spend some time socializing with the boys; perhaps playing games or helping with chores and homework thus providing, during the interaction, a positive role model to them.

  • Highlights

AIDENICA, or Asociacion para la Atencion Integral de NiƱos de la Calle (Association for the Comprehensive Care of Street Children), is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of street children. They run a home, called Casa Hogar AIDENICA, which has accommodations for up to forty children. While on the streets, most of these boys were involved with drugs and delinquent behaviour. The boys live at the house and do chores, attend high school, get help with their homework, learn vocational skills, and ideally by the age of 18 the boys will have learned enough to become self-sufficient.

In all of Peru, there are about three million children who are working in the streets. They are usually driven there by poverty and/or to escape family violence; forcing them to help themselves and/or their families to earn a living by selling and begging. Once in the streets, they are often subject to abuse from older children and also usually forced to drop out of school. Some end up in gangs and/or become addicted to sniffing glue in order to survive the streets.
This organization has a very small staff with few resources. They do not have enough funds to operate at full capacity,(40 to 50 children). Currently they can support only 15 boys in the home and frequently have difficulty meeting their needs of adequate clothing and nourishment. At times, the organization risks having to down-size even further or stop their work altogether. AIDENICA is well-known and respected in their neighbourhood, however, there is little awareness of this wonderful organization throughout Lima or internationally.
An informative website and promotional materials for distribution would greatly increase public awareness in who they are, what they are trying to accomplish, their immediately needs and future goals; thus hoping to establish a greatly increased stream of income to provide for current needs and in the future, expansion to full capacity. Currently there is no website. What an opportunity!! What a challenge!!
