During your volunteer international service project you will be asked to do the following:
* Update current content on website.
* Attend workshops and seminars that are organized by staff and volunteers and add new information and pictures about the organization on website.
* Change site design (this would require working with all staff to learn what they would like) and add new pages to their website that they would like include.
* Create a report that will be left at the ECCA office with the projects you were able to get done and potential ideas for future projects.
* If able - help to put the existing code into a framework so that it is easier for another person to pick up where the existing project is and be able to code accordingly.
* Work with ECCA staff to include social media links into the website such as facebook and twitter. Show staff how to maintain these types of social medial tools.
When volunteering in Nepal there will be times that electricity is not available. The team at ECCA will identify other jobs for you to work on if unable to use the computer, for example:
* Create a teaching guide for others on how to update the website and work with the staff at ECCA to teach at least one other staff member how to update the website, upload pictures and to think of different ways they want to highlight their projects.
* Help to prepare for Environmental Awareness presentations that they organize throughout Kathmandu and sorrounding areas; participate in delivering workshops to different schools and adult centers.
* Help with proposal writing. This could involve helping to identify projects and why they are necessary, establishing budgets and composing the data.
* Teach children English and help them to practice both their oral and written abilities.
ECCA, is seeking volunteers to work with their organization because they have a number of different projects they would like to do, however, they do not have enough staff or volunteers to accomplish their goals.
A volunteer who is able to help web design, create new IT tools and update the existing site is really needed because the organization can not pay for web maintenance. The staff at ECCA, would also like to have a volunteer come so that a member of their staff could work closely with him or her and learn new ideas about how to improve their website.
This placement is important because as our world becomes more globally connected, having a current website is necessary -- in order to share the goals of the programs and to raise more awareness about the environmental issues in Nepal, and how their organization is addressing these issues. This job could be very rewarding and you may be given the opportunity to work in various areas.
Volunteers must have a good background updating websites and using the internet. You do not have to know a lot of code as many of the pages have been made, however, if you know some coding it would be an asset (not required though).
Must be interested in environmental issues and be interested to help this organization to share the environmental challenges in Nepal by helping to use different types of social media to help get their message out there.

We believe international volunteering promotes cross-cultural learning that helps create global awareness, understanding between cultures and provides the platform for positive change. Our volunteers have taught in schools, provided disaster relief support for the International Red Cross, conducted essential research to improve the management strategies of threatened environments, built homes for impoverished people, provided vocational training and programs for street kids and have worked in co-operation with hundreds of local organizations to distribute aid and improve the quality of life for people throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.
