  • Description

At the present time they require a qualified and experienced social worker who would be willing and capable of doing home visits to complete the necessary forms, determine the present situation in the home and if action needs to be taken, what type and how urgent is the requirement.

At present pertinent information on each child is taken and recorded by hand and filed as such at Villa Ticca. It is hoped that the volunteer social worker would develop and implement a computer system so that all the files,(present and pass), could be entered into a simple computer data system so that all information both current and pass is electronically filed and a system in place that the staff could continue to keep up-to-date.

There's a lot to do. The staff at Villa Ticca appreciates volunteers who are capable and enjoy taking the initiative within their programs. Volunteers are also encouraged to create and implement different stimulating activities for the children.

The Volunteer Social Worker would be expected to develop and conduct workshops with the mothers. The topics would relate to helping the women to increase their knowledge in numerous ways to help improve their current situations and help them to build their self esteem.

  • Highlights

This children's center relies on the help of volunteers to aide in caring for children from low-to-no income neighbourhoods in the South of Quito. Most of the children at Villa Ticca come from dysfunctional homes. Violence at their homes is a common thing. Sometimes children come with bruises on their bodies, and they won't tell what happened to them; for this reason, it is very important to have volunteers with knowledge and experience in dealing with these types of abusive situations so that the volunteer is capable of noting the problem and taking the appropriate action without becoming excessively emotionally distressed themselves.

Villa Tica has developed a social/economic predetermined form, that was designed by the Administrator of the Centre; however this form does not take into account all the factors that are necessary to determine when investigating and conducting research of this nature. The staff of Villa Ticca is always interested in upgrading the services they provide, in any way possible to the children and their mothers, to help to alleviate any type of danger to which they may be exposed.
