Description

A volunteer who is assigned this placement will be responsible to working with the members of Nagarik Aawaz to learn what type of funding they are looking to receive. Once you understand the needs of the organization you will be responsible for helping to create proposal or submissions to different donor agencies in both Nepal and internationally.

Volunteer will be also asked to provide seminars to the other members of the Nagarik Aawaz team to provide your ideas about how to make a proposal and while at the same time learning from your co-workers at the placement how they normally do it.
Another task would be create a list of potential donors (any where in the world) that would be interested in supporting this initiative.

A volunteer is needed to help create funding proposals that includes things like financial spending from year before and the budget that is being forcasted. They may also be asked to help with annual reports to primary donors and help create the information that the team needs. This position would be extremely valuable for this organization.

The members of Nagarik Aawaz need the help of volunteers directly with their re-intergration programs for both women and children. However, this organization has requested that before someone is assigned this role that they spend sometime in another area to prove that they are mature, reliable and open-minded. The reason for this is because the women and children who participate in their programs have been through tragic situations and a volunteer that is going to work withing these program must show maturity and commitment before they will be assigned work within either of their primary program.

The other types of jobs would be to teach English to conflict effected youth. Help in Thursdays soup kitchen to help feed street youth in the area.

Participate in various programs and provide assistance to help organize and implement programs. Besides, volunteer can work on proposal writing, updating websites, creating fund raising program, Media monitoring.

Highlights

Nagarik Aawaz is social organization working to promote peace due to the increasing concern by activists, other organizations and citizens of Nepal that the effects of the decade long war is still effecting a number of Nepali people throughout the country. The mission of this organization is to create programs that help individual who require assistance and support to re-intergrate back into society.

The name "Nagarik Aawaz" means "Voice of Citizen". This name is very symbolic of the work that organization is determined to implement. Members of their team strive to continue to research how violence and conflict has impacted different communities throughout Nepal and they strive to create programs that people re-gain a normal life or get their "their voice back". Nagarik Aawaz was established in 2001 A.D., during the war between Nepal Government and Maoist. During this decade long cival war almost more than 15000 people were killed and between 100,000 to 150,000 were internally displaced. This means that they had to leave their homes due to the violence and went to search for new places to live.

To provide support to affected victims of this war Nagarik Aawaz was established. Although the war has been over since 2006 and Nepal once again is a very peaceful country the effects are still apart of the daily lives of many Nepalis.

When the organization was first created they understood the political climate and the internal conflict but they were unsure of how their organization would be able to help promote peace and help to those who were effected by the war. Due to an increase displaced communities which often had high number of children within them the members of Nagarik Aawaz decided that they should put efforts in helping people who were displaced from their community in order to reduce the increasing violence that was occurring because so many people were pushed away from their homes they were with out anything. They wanted to help individuals who lost either lost their families, did not know where their other families were to help provide stability and re-entry. Their goal is to promote peace and demonstrate that there is hope and people that do care so that those we have been effected by war can start to heal.
This organizations has developed a number of projects that are focused on spreading peace and hope to especially woman whose husband died in the war and to children whose parents died in the war. As a result, the two major programs that this organization implements are: "Women and Youth as Pillars of Sustainable Peace Program" and "Youth for Peace and Re-Integration Program".

Every year they have 25 youth go through their "Youth for Peace and Re-Integration Program". After this help ensure they sponsor them to ensure they have the items they need to continue caring for themselves.

Qualifications

Volunteers must have a good understanding on how to write grant proposals and can demonstrate a leadership role in helping to teach others about how to write one. A volunteer at this placement must have the ability to work independently. Volunteers should have a some background knowledge in at least one of the following areas: feminism, gender issues, policy making, women's rights, Nepali history or how to write a funding proposal, Maoist insurgency, conflict management would as all would be an asset.

Program Fees Include:

Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one - 4 weeks of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.

Volunteers who are able to take initiative, who like to listen and enjoy conducting research would excel at this placement.
