Volunteers who are interested in volunteering with the Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania in Arusha would be asked to do the following types of jobs.
* Help to create a manual about tips on how to write a grant proposal.
* Work with staff to create a list of potential donors both within Tanzania and/or from an international organizations.
* Create a grant proposal that can be used as a template for staff and future volunteers who could use it as a guide when volunteering in this position.
* Go to all the different projects and learn what the organizations goals and objectives are and what they have accomplished.
* Create a list of future projects that the organization would like to complete, why it is important and help to create a realistic budget for the project. This then can be used for different grant proposals that can be written in the future or while you are there volunteering your time.
* Create a training session so that you can teach all staff at the organization about how to write a grant proposal and what are the primary things that are needed in such a report.
* Provide a copy of your proposal writing manual and training sessions to the BaseCamp Tanzania Center to be added to the resource library. This is important so that future volunteers can use your materials to help other organizations learn how to write grant proposals and provide materials that other volunteers can use to work with other organizations to learn about proposal writing skills.
Although the Arusha branch of the organization is fairly small, they still facilitate many important projects for the area. They can only afford to support one full-time staff and a part-time assistant. The two staff at this organization work on: all administration, project development, communication with the main branch in Dar es Salaam, field work and community awareness projects. The work load for these two individuals is much to high for them to create new projects or create new initiatives.
This organization could really use the time of a volunteer to assist them to write proposals and help the staff at WCST create a list of potential donors. The reason this is important is because this organization is trying to tackle a massive challenge and would greatly appreciate donations and/or funds to help increase their capability to introduce new programs and projects. Although the staff at this organization have received funding from the Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania they could really use assistance from someone who has experience writing grant proposals and is willing to provide information and assistance on how to write a proposal.
Volunteers with a background in proposal writing, project planning or a administrative assistance would be well suited for this placement. A volunteer at this placement should have the ability to write clearly, concisely, and effectively. They should have a good background in the English language and must have written a grant proposal in the past. In addition, a volunteer at this placement should have excellent grammatical skills, good at attention to details and understand that some grants do have deadlines so must be able to complete assignments under pressure.

We believe international volunteering promotes cross-cultural learning that helps create global awareness, understanding between cultures and provides the platform for positive change. Our volunteers have taught in schools, provided disaster relief support for the International Red Cross, conducted essential research to improve the management strategies of threatened environments, built homes for impoverished people, provided vocational training and programs for street kids and have worked in co-operation with hundreds of local organizations to distribute aid and improve the quality of life for people throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.
