  • Description

The volunteer nurse's duties will vary at the medical center, but at the same time they involve tasks that a nurse generally has to preform. At the health center, the nurse will rotate in the different areas of the center. In each area the nurse will be responsible for having all the equipment and instruments organized, cleaned and ready for each new patient. Depending on the area they are assigned, the nurse will have to take vital signs, have the records organized, give medication, clean the patients; if there is a case where the patient has to be transferred to another hospital the nurse will be responsible for writing down a document that will indicate that the patient is being taken somewhere else. In major cases, the nurse will have to prepare the patients for surgery and get the patients ready to be taken to another unit.

Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:

Nurse Volunteers may be asked to help with administrative tasks around the clinic, such as patient histories, chart updating, and filing. If there is extra time, the nurse volunteers may be asked to develop workshops, with topics such as sexual education, hygiene and health.

  • Highlights

Centro de Salud has several medical clinics throughout the city of Quito. They are striving to serve their community with the proper and necessary medical attention otherwise unavailable were these clinics not in these areas, or providing the medical care for the prices they perform them at (at times for free).

Centro de Salud is an under-funded government run center that is always looking for help in the area of medical attention for the community. Knowledgeable people with experience in these fields can greatly aid the doctors. Nurse Volunteers are helpful in providing an extra hand to medical personal thus better service to the communities that they are serving.
