Volunteers assisting as a Junior Kindergarten Teacher will be actively participating in the daily classroom activities. You will work either one-on-one with select students or with a full class. Tasks will include teaching lessons about the alphabet, numbers, colours, weather and many more subjects.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to teach their own lessons as well as lead school activities such as story time, sports and games. Creative teaching techniques and lessons are always welcome and necessary to keep the children engaged. Volunteers can share knowledge and teach the children new songs and dances as well as the fundamental basics of English and math.
During this placement you many also be asked to help with creating new visuals for the Kindergarten class such as interesting pictures that the children could emulate. You can also assist in the day to day activities of maintaining the school such as cleaning.
My Lord Jesus Cares Day Care is a grass-root independent project that was started by Mrs. Dinah Amoah. Upon conception, there were only six students attending the school, however due to rising demands, there are now over seventy-five nursery children that attend each day. The main reason this organization requires volunteers is because they are understaffed. There is currently four teachers and the headmistress ; most of their time is spent managing the classrooms as opposed to teaching.
At the daycare the students range between the age of two and seven years. During these formative years, children require more one-on-one support, more guidance and often need to be reminded of the rules and instructions. Volunteers are needed to assist the teachers in organizing the students, providing one-on-one support, helping organize and implement lesson plans and giving the children at the school a chance to practice their English skills.
This placement need volunteers who are looking to work with Junior Kindergarten students. There are roughly seventy children at the day care and only a handful of staff, making it difficult for the teachers to have one-on-one time with the young children. Volunteers would be assisting the teachers with their daily class activities and even teaching lessons if they felt comfortable.
Volunteers interested in this placement should have a good background of working with children. You should be able to easily interact with staff members and parents. It is important that volunteers are creative and open to working with children who may not speak fluent English.

We believe international volunteering promotes cross-cultural learning that helps create global awareness, understanding between cultures and provides the platform for positive change. Our volunteers have taught in schools, provided disaster relief support for the International Red Cross, conducted essential research to improve the management strategies of threatened environments, built homes for impoverished people, provided vocational training and programs for street kids and have worked in co-operation with hundreds of local organizations to distribute aid and improve the quality of life for people throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.
